mark doesn’t agree to do time magazine more than he’s strong-armed into it. chris can be very persuasive when he wants to be and it’s not like this isn’t important; being made person of the year 2010 is no small feat, not even for mark zuckerberg. (… i remember having these conversations with my friends when i was in college. we would just take it as an assumption that the world would get to the state where it is now. but we figured, we’re just college kids. why were we the people that were most qualified to do that?…) he sighs, knowing exactly how this will go.

still, he can’t help but think about the way things changed back then. what it’s like now. he says it’s not lonely (…the reality is that zuckerberg isn’t alienated, and he isn’t a loner. he’s the opposite…) but he’s lying. he has dustin and chris, and he has his employess but it’s not the same. chris and dustin are… they don’t trust him and he knows that. he doesn’t care but he knows it. it stings a little to think that they would believe he would do to them what he - what he-

that he would get rid of them. he wouldn’t ever. he needs them. (maybe that’s what they’re afraid of - that one day they will stop being useful and mark will tell them, show them, that he doesn’t want them around)

mark stares down at the page and his lips tighten. it’s not that he didn’t know that, but to see it in black and white makes it more real, almost. he thinks about all the other things chris and dustin have said about him in the past when they think he’s not listening or just absent. he’s neither of those things; he hears and he remembers. he’s just never -

zuckerberg has a talent for understanding how people work, but one urge, the urge to conceal, seems to be foreign to him

they can’t know they got it so wrong.
